Senior Director of Annual Giving

Job Description

The Senior Director of Annual Giving reports to the Executive Director and oversees the comprehensive strategy and implementation of all annual giving activities for the Ragin’ Cajuns Athletic Foundation (RCAF). The Senior Director oversees identification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of annual giving donors.

The Senior Director must demonstrate a strategic, data-driven approach to fundraising while having a successful track record of acquiring, retaining and upgrading annual donors/members. Working closely with the RCAF, Foundation, Development, Advancement Operations, and Athletics the Senior Director will establish cross-departmental collaborations to cultivate, solicit and steward annual giving prospects.

This position will also attend and assist with athletics department games/events, donor events and other department functions as assigned. Will be required to work occasional evenings and weekends throughout the year, as well as travel occasionally.


Job Tasks & Responsibilities

  • Research and implement industry best practices to create and execute a multidimensional appeal schedule that utilizes a variety of mediums (e.g., electronic/digital solicitations, direct mail appeals, phone, texts, and social media) to solicit potential and renew current donors
  • Direct strategies aimed to increase Annual Fund dollars and number of donors and members through the acquisition, retention, and upgrade of philanthropic support from individuals and companies
  • Routinely present to community groups, businesses, and individual donors on RCAF membership benefits and goals, encouraging and growing giving
  • Make personal leadership annual giving solicitations, typically between $1,000 - $5,000 annual gifts, for the RCAF
  • Achieve personal and team annual fundraising goals (meetings, solicitations, funds raised, membership growth, renewal rates, etc.)
  • Develop fiscal and multi-year annual fund/membership plan with specific goals, performance metrics and budget
  • Write effective donor solicitation, stewardship, and communication pieces
  • Creates new and evaluates existing fundraising opportunities (mini campaigns, giving days, events, etc.)
  • Advises and assists coaches on sport-specific annual giving fundraising efforts
  • Educates and collaborates with Central Development on RCAF Annual Giving strategies
  • Develop and implement key donor segment programs and initiatives to secure new donors and renewals at the leadership annual giving level (i.e. recent grad program and former student-athlete initiatives, corporate memberships, etc.) aimed to increase Annual Fund dollars
  • Evaluate, Secure, and Manage vendor relationships, budgets, and project management plans for annual giving efforts
  • Implement segmentation strategies and donor programs aimed to increase RCAF membership and sustain philanthropic support from individuals and companies
  • Collaborate and coordinate with the Athletics Ticket Office to leverage the season ticket schedule to increase donations and grow membership of the RCAF
  • Manage and update RCAF Annual Giving Calendar throughout the year and work with Assistant Director of Donor Relations on annual giving communication needs
  • Work with University Annual Giving Office and Advancement Operations to maximize use of technological resources and overall solicitation/communication calendar
  • Routinely report to Executive Director and other university leadership annual giving reports and metrics data 
  • Generate major gift and premium seating leads for other RCAF staff to engage and solicit throughout the year
  • Oversee strategic planning and implementation of RCAF Total Investment program and continually update the RCAF Priority Points and Investor Ranking
  • Directly supervises staff towards achieving annual team goals
  • Serve as staff liaison with RCAF Board of Directors sub-committee(s)
  • Maintain accuracy of records through entering contact reports and providing updates to donor database; following data policies and guidelines for requesting reports and use of data
  • Work with Executive Director to set individual and team performance goals annually
  • Actively participate in RCAF and Office of Development staff meetings and retreats
  • Other duties as assigned

  • Excellent computer, verbal and written communication, as well as demonstrated organizational skills necessary
  • Superior interpersonal and collaborative skills
  • Ability to build/maintain relationships and solicit gifts
  • Capable of crafting multichannel solicitation pieces and other professional documentation
  • Task-oriented and self-motivated with ability to meet deadlines and work independently or as part of a team
  • Ability to both prioritize given assignments and multi-task effectively
  • Ability to think critically and exercise sound judgment and decision making
  • Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion



  • A Bachelor's degree is required, Master's preferred
  • 5 or more years of experience, with a preference given to a background in fundraising, especially annual giving fundraising
  • A strong affinity toward and understanding of intercollegiate athletics, including an interest in enhancing the student-athlete experience through philanthropy
